Throughout the years...

The Cedar Street Bridge stands as a testament to the evolving transportation and population needs of Sandpoint, Idaho, dating back to the late 1800s. Originally a simple footbridge made of logs and decking, it has transformed over the years to accommodate the ever-growing community. In 1906, a new bridge was constructed by local businessman Farmin, followed by further upgrades in 1933 to allow automobiles access to the train depot across Sand Creek.

However, by 1971, the bridge was deemed unsafe and eventually condemned. In a remarkable turnaround, local entrepreneur Scott Glickenhaus leased the bridge for $1 a year and reconstructed it in the style of Italy's Ponte Vecchio, using sturdy tamarack timbers. Today, the Cedar Street Mall Bridge spans 400 feet across Sand Creek, serving as a bustling hub for tourists and locals alike, housing unique shops and businesses that continue to shape the character of the community.
