The Cedar Street Bridge

Throughout the years...
The Cedar Street Bridge stands as a testament to the evolving
transportation and population needs of Sandpoint. Idaho, dating back to
the late 1800s. Originally a simple footbridge made of logs and decking, it
has transformed over the years to accommodate the ever-growing
community. In l906, a new bridge was constructed by local businessman
Farmin. followed b further upgrades in 1933 to allow automobiles access
to the train depot across San Creek.

However by I971, the bridge was deemed unsafe and eventually
condemned. In a remarkable turnaround, local entrepreneur Scott
Glickenhaus leased the bridge for $1 a year and reconstructed it in the
style of Italy's Ponte Vecchio, using sturdy tamarack timbers. Todav. the
Cedar Street Mall Bridge spans 400 feet across Sand Creek, serving as a
bustling hub for tourists and locals alike. housing unique shops and
businesses that continue to shape the character or the community.
